Cooking the day away
Thanks to my sis, and I guess to Groupon, we had a fun city adventure with Will and Auntie H a few weeks ago.
I'm guessing that it's a pretty common thing for most little kids, but for the past two years, Will has adored baking and cooking with me in the kitchen. And I, in turn, adore that. Ever since I can remember, I always spent as much time as possible in the kitchen, with my mom, my Oma, my Tante. I thoroughly enjoy my kitchen time with William. Even though it means slower progress, more mess, oftentimes more frustration, it is a great way to keep him entertained, and learning! I hope that he grows up embracing cooking and baking. His wife will appreciate that someday for sure.
Just the other day, he declared to me, "Mommy, when I grow up, I'm gonna be a chef. And then I can be the boss in my own kitchen."
Anyways, as I was saying, thanks to the wildly varied and creative activities one can find on Groupon, this lucky little guy got to attend his first cooking class, geared at 2-3 year olds.
I wasn't sure, logistically speaking, how smoothly things would run with a bunch of 2-3 year-olds in a kitchen, but my fears were assuaged; this little company did an excellent job. (Of course, it did help that each child had a parent supervising them :)
You might be wondering what was on our menu for the day. Why pizza, of course!
Each step was first introduced and demonstrated by the teacher. Then ingredients were passed along so eager little hands (gripping adorable little tot-sized utensils) could partake fully in the hands-on culinary experience.
This little guy happily grated, chopped, rolled and ate (yes, mostly just ate) his way through the entire class. Sheesh, we were lucky there were ANY ingredients left for him to sprinkle on his pizza!
However, he did manage to assemble a half-way decent-looking pizza.
After patiently waiting (as patiently as one can expect a starving 3-year-old to wait) for it to cool, he finally got to reap the fruits of his labor.
Mm, mm, good!
Thanks for a fun birthday outing Auntie H!
