Does anybody else agree with me that baby shower gifts are almost as cute as newborn babies themselves? I mean, c'mon!

This one's for my dear friend Esti who is having a baby girl in 6 weeks!

Weekend in Canadia-land

Yup, we went to a family reunion with the Canadian in-laws in Sarnia, Ontario (pronounced like "Narnia" if you're an American CS Lewis fan, like me).On the way, we stopped at a tiny town in MI for some eats.

When we were in church on Sunday, I saw a woman wearing this hat:

Now why can't we get away with that in America?

My husband's grandfather used to make cool culptures out of tools and gadgets, here's a cool one he made:

(I have named her Henrietta)

We got to watch the sunset behind the Bluewater Bridge which spans the gap between Port Huron, MI and Sarnia, ON. It was a beautiful evening....

And of course, a trip to Canada would not be complete without getting 'chips under the bridge', eaten in true Canadian style with vinegar sprinkled on top (they actually have a vinegar sprayer that comes out of the ceiling!)

And I will leave you with a shot of my hubby's adorable little distant-cousin-twice-removed or something like that

Mid July...Summer is upon us

The gorgeous soul-searching eyes of my dear friend's new baby, Orion. Have you ever seen a more beautiful feline?

Ah, Garage Sale!

For all the skeptics out there who think that garage sale shopping is a waste of time, or for the ones who slowly inch by down the street, as they hunch over the steering wheel scoping out the wares all the while telling themselves there's nothing good and it's not worth the time to stop...you NEVER know what you will find.
Check out this great vintage lamp I got (it was the woman's grandmother's) (flowers in the foreground are from my garden :)

And even more exciting is this vintage cake plate! This was originally owned by the woman's great aunt, so I'm estimating it to be circa 1920's or 30's. This find completely made my day! Now...I should bake a cake.

Here's to a great day of garage-saling!

An Experiment....testing testing

I was trying to see if I could blog pics directly from Picasa,
and do multiple pics at a time with text in between. Looks
like I am going to find myself unsuccessful.
Well in the first pic, I love the reflection on the mirror-glass
water, and do you spot the goldfish? That was by this lovely
pond we found where my hubby's grandparents live.

The second picture was me, my hubby and his bro having fun with mirrors. Oh, it doesn't take much to entertain us...

Quintessential Summer Feast

Ah, so thankful that we have noses and tastebuds...this was one delicious summer fare

Barbecue chicken - slow-cooked on grill over indirect heat for 1.5 hours, with that magical
barbecue rub in the beginning and then Sweet Baby Ray's sauce at the end. Mmmm..

And this picture gets "x-large" status because it was incredibly, amazingly delicious sweet corn. Definitely the best we've had all summer.

As usual, Sammy was trying to get a little somethin' (chicken, not corn :)

And on an entirely different note, here's what a normal ovary looks like:

And here's what my ovaries looked like (this is not actually my ultrasound picture -
for some strange reason, they don't print out copies for you to show off in your wallet like they would
if this was an ultrasound of a baby)

See all the 'cysts' (actually just lots of follicles).

And now begins the adventure of a lifetime...my nonchalance fails to betray the actual uncertainty,
fear, anticipation and dread with which I am actually approaching this. Who knew a little pill could be so scary...

The other morning I went out to my yard after work to say good morning to my garden.
I was so surprised to be greeted by so many surprises...
