Have you ever been to Cantigny Park in Wheaton? If not, you should definitely add it to your summer bucket list. This place has gorgeous grounds with endless flower beds and beautiful trees, rows upon rows...it also has a very informative and interesting war museum and an old house/museum that you can tour. All of this stuff, though, is only mildly interesting to my boys at this age (not to mention that they were all closed when we arrived at 5pm the other day). However, that's ok, because they were thoroughly entertained for two hours with...
TANKS!!
This place has a huge collection of real (retired :) tanks from various wars.
And the best part for kids...they let you climb all over them!
The big guy had a blast pretending to shoot passers-by with imaginary missiles from the canons
Or hanging from them
The little guy was insistent on running full-speed ahead around the perimeters of the tanks, much to the chagrin of his mother and Oma...but this little thrill seeker was on cloud nine.
It was a rather spontaneous trip to Wheaton, I'll admit. But we talked the grandparents into joining us and had a lovely little time.
It may be unfortunate, though, that we drove all the way out to Wheaton for tank climbing, because I'm pretty sure this guy was just as happy playing with an umbrella.
Ah well, c'est la vie with children I guess.
Nothing like a nice tank-climbing family pic. This one's for the Christmas cards!
Say
"cheese". "ready, aim, fire!"
